Who Are We - What is Our Mission?
Chess Test Tutors was founded in 2002 as a subsidiary of People Making Progress, a 501 c 3 non-profit organization. With a strong focus on intellectual achievement and personal responsibility, we are more concerned with developing "life" masters than "chess" masters. Our three pronged mission is as follows: • Our mission is to use chess as a tool to give all at-risk and disadvantaged youth an educational and life affirming alternative to a rampant gang culture and rapidly declining rates of literacy and overall scholarship. • Our mission is to use chess as a vehicle to lay a foundation for advanced decision making and encourage at-risk youth and students with disadvantages, to become life long learners and responsible citizens. •Our mission is to ignite the fun in learning for all students. We see in chess a singularly effective tool to instill logic, personal responsibility and an appreciation for intellectual achievement.

	Our two pronged strategy for pursuing this mission is as follows: • To attract in-kind donations, grants and corporate dollars that we might provide our services free of cost to the low income communities whom need it most. • To become aligned with other non-profit organization who have a similar mission that we might benefit from each others resources to propel us toward our mutual goals.


We are proud to report that thanks to the communities support, we have already taught over 60,000 children from every racial, cultural and economic strata of our greater Los Angeles community. Ideally, however, we hope to attract the attention and resources necessary to allow us to focus, more exclusively, on communities with the greatest need. • We use songs, poems, stories, giant chess sets, chess clocks & of course Rocky the Rook-Roller and Rudy the Rook-Rocker to make learning fun!
