Chess
at it's Best
Of all pastimes, it has been generally allowed by all who
have had even the least insight into the game that Chess
is the most noble, as well as the most fascinating. Chess is
played around the world by millions of enthusiasts.
Elaine Pritcharii (80years old), a very
good chess player from Germany, has said, "chess is
an international passport and through the game you will
have friends in all the cities of the world."
Today more people play chess than that of basketball, baseball,
and soccer put together. Chess has a language of its own,
and therefore many relationships have been forged, friendships
are developed using the pieces and squares as a tool to
interact on a multitude of levels.
Chess is an art because creativity and spontaneity are keys to success. Chess is a science because there are proven approaches and strategies that work. Chess has this and
even more values for students, chess is more than a game
since a teacher can transfer many aspects of this motivational
tool to other important subjects. (See chess and achievement)
